Android install guide

Cohost Scanner

v1.1.2 · build 19 · direct install (not on Google Play)

This installs the door-scanning app straight from a file instead of the Play Store. It takes about a minute — follow the steps in order on the phone you'll be scanning with.

Step 0 — get the file

app-release.apk

Download for Android

~83 MB · signed release build

Install in 5 steps

  1. 1

    Open the downloaded file

Tap the download notification, or find app-release.apk in your Downloads app.

  2. 2

    Allow installs from this source

Android will block it the first time and offer a Settings button. Tap it, then turn on “Allow from this source” for the app you opened the file with (usually Chrome or Files).

  3. 3

    Go back and tap Install

Return to the install screen — it should still be open — and tap Install.

  4. 4

If Play Protect steps in, install anyway

You may see a warning that this app is unrecognized. Tap More details → Install anyway.

Why does this show up? Play Protect flags anything installed outside the Play Store, whether or not it's safe. We're sideloading because the app was removed from the Store — the build itself is signed and unchanged.

  5. 5

Open the app and sign in

Launch Cohost Scanner and log in with the scanning ID and PIN your event organizer gave you.

If something doesn't match

No install prompt appeared
Check your notification shade for the finished download, or open it directly from your Files / Downloads app.
Install button is greyed out or missing
A work phone or school device may be managed by an IT policy that blocks sideloading entirely — check with whoever manages the phone.
Getting a newer build later
Come back to this same page and download again — it always points at the current build.
